The Chiikawa Phenomenon in Fukuoka: "Monster Hunting" Themed Special Cafe Opens Its Doors

Chiikawa, one of the biggest cultural phenomena in Japan in recent years, is back in the spotlight with a new event that has fans buzzing. Held at the Minori Cafe inside Fukuoka PARCO from May 14 to June 7, 2026, the "Subjugation Fair Drink Stand" turns iconic scenes from the series into delicious menu items. The most eye-catching part of the event is the special ice cream dessert inspired by the famous "Gichi Gichi Gichi" sounding bug from the series.
Created by artist Nagano, the series—whose full name is Nanka Chiisakute Kawaii Yatsu (Something Small and Cute)—first began as a web manga on Twitter (X) in 2020. Reaching millions of followers in a short time, the work is known not only for its cuteness but also for its realistic and sometimes dark subtext, where characters must work jobs like fighting dangerous monsters or weeding to make a living. The series, which won the prestigious Japan Character Award in 2022 and 2024, has taken its popularity to a global scale with its anime adaptation produced by Doga Kobo studio.
The menu offered at this special cafe in Fukuoka centers on the series' "monster hunting" (toubatsu) theme. Visitors can "hunt" and eat the green bug-themed ice cream, priced at 1,320 yen, using forks shaped like the Sasumata (forked spear) used by the characters in the series. The menu also features creative options such as the Hachiware character's stuffed pepper dish and special cream sodas prepared with local Amaou strawberries. Thanks to the collaboration with JA Zen-Noh, all recipes feature ingredients sourced from Fukuoka and surrounding prefectures.
