Manga Set in the 'Back Alleys' of Real Estate for 70 Million Yen Debt: Volume 1 of 'Uradōri Fudōsan' Released

Manga fans in Japan have encountered a new surprise. The first volume of the manga “Uradōri Fudōsan” (Back Alley Real Estate) was released on June 9, 2024. The series follows the adventures of a young girl who resorts to the dark and illegal ways of the real estate world to pay off a huge debt of 70 million yen (approximately 14 million TL).
The story is written by screenwriter Kazuto Takishima, while the illustrations are by Shōji Morimoto. Although both have previously worked on different genres, this project stands out as their first collaboration. Particularly, Takishima's ability to blend tension and crime elements is one of the most important factors shaping the series' atmosphere.
In the first volume, readers witness the main character desperately beginning to explore unknown sides of the real estate market to pay off her debt. The story brings to light a young person struggling with financial collapse on one hand, and the 'back alley' economy that society ignores on the other. “Uradōri Fudōsan” is not just a debt repayment story; it also critically addresses the dark side of Japan's real estate sector, corruption, and systemic loopholes.
It is noteworthy that financial-themed series have gained attention in the manga industry in recent years. Following works like “Kakegurui” and “Liar Game”, “Uradōri Fudōsan” also appeals to a similar niche, but this time the focus is on real estate speculation and legal loopholes. The series stands out as a must-read for those who especially enjoy crime, tension, and social criticism combined.
With the release of the first volume, fans are eagerly waiting to see how the series will progress. Although the Japanese publisher has not yet set a date for the next volume, if the manga gains popularity, new chapters are expected to be published quickly. An official digital or print translation for readers in Turkey has not been announced yet, but it is only a matter of time before the series appears on international platforms.
