New Manga from Hideo Yamamoto: "Suiken Japan" Starts July 6

One of Japan's most unconventional mangakas, Hideo Yamamoto, is returning with a new manga series. Titled "Suiken Japan", the work will officially begin publication on July 6, 2026. The news was first announced by Anime News Network and quickly generated a huge wave of excitement among manga fans.
Yamamoto previously created unforgettable works blending psychological thriller and black humor, such as "Ichi the Killer", "Homunculus", and "Voyeur". The mangaka, who gained a deep fan base especially through Homunculus, had recently turned to more experimental projects. The name "Suiken Japan", which translates to "Drunken Fist Japan" in Turkish, suggests the series might have a martial arts theme. However, considering Yamamoto's signature dark and questioning narrative style, this work is not expected to be a typical fighting manga.
Although there is no official information yet about the magazine or platform where the series will be published, Yamamoto is known to usually serialize in weekly or monthly magazines. The mangaka's past works often focus on adult themes, social alienation, and identity questioning. "Suiken Japan" may not break this tradition, potentially creating a strong impact both visually and thematically. Particularly, Yamamoto's return with a new series after a long hiatus came as a big surprise to his followers.
Worldwide known for the adaptations of Ichi the Killer, Yamamoto is one of the rare names in the manga industry with a "disturbing but fascinating" style. Active since the 1990s, the mangaka has won many awards in his career, and his works have been adapted into films, TV series, and even games. With "Suiken Japan", fan theories are already circulating online: Could the series be connected to Yamamoto's previous works? Or will it present a completely independent, brand-new universe? The answers to all these questions will begin to become clear on July 6. If you are a Yamamoto fan, mark your calendar—because this new work will be talked about, just like in the past.
