Hunter x Hunter Surpasses the 100 Million Milestone: A Massive Celebration Begins for the Legendary Series

One of the most respected and discussed works in the manga world, Hunter x Hunter, has reached a historic milestone in its publication history. According to an official statement by the publisher Shueisha, the series by Yoshihiro Togashi has officially surpassed the 100 million copies in circulation mark, including digital sales. This massive achievement was certified alongside the release of the series' 39th volume, which will hit shelves on July 3, 2026. This adventure, which began in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 1998, has etched its name in golden letters into the exclusive list known as the "100 Million Club" of the manga world after a journey of nearly 28 years.
To celebrate this historic success, large-scale events are being held in Japan. Between June 29 and July 5, 2026, Tokyo's famous Shibuya district was transformed into a giant outdoor exhibition called "Shibuya HUNTER Street." While more than 100 Hunter x Hunter characters are featured on billboards placed on the streets, fans can scan QR codes on these boards to access exclusive digital content. Furthermore, a special commemorative video released on the series' official YouTube channel and the temporary free access to 340 chapters on the Shonen Jump+ platform are adding to the excitement of the celebrations. A special live broadcast even took place as part of the festivities, representing the iconic "10,000 gratitude punches" ritual of the legendary character Chairman Netero.
The journey of Hunter x Hunter to this point has been quite bumpy due to serious health issues faced by its creator Yoshihiro Togashi and the resulting long hiatuses. Although Togashi, who frequently had to take breaks due to severe back pain, left fans without new chapters for long periods, he never compromised on the quality of the series. Surpassing the 100 million mark is seen not only as a commercial success but also as proof of the readers' unwavering loyalty to Togashi's storytelling. By joining giants like One Piece, Dragon Ball, and Naruto, the series has once again proven that it is one of the most important cornerstones of the modern shonen genre.
The real good news for fans, however, was the return of the manga. After a long 18-month hiatus, chapter 411 was published in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine as of June 29, 2026, continuing the story from where it left off. The currently ongoing "Succession Contest" arc continues to deepen within the complex power games of Kurapika and other characters. Togashi's social media posts indicate that the author is already working on drafts for the next 50 chapters. This raises hopes that the series may have a more regular publication schedule in the coming period.
