Kageki Shojo!! Manga Takes a Short Break: News from Author Kumiko Saiki!

We have news for Kageki Shojo!! fans that is both sad and requires some patience. The series' creator, Kumiko Saiki, suffered an unfortunate injury at a music festival she attended last March. Due to this unexpected situation, the manga, which is published in Hakusensha's Melody magazine, has decided to take a one-issue break. According to the official statement, the series will meet its readers again in June.
This break comes during one of the most critical periods of the manga, right in the middle of the final arc that began last September. The series, which follows the dreams, competition, and stage passion of young girls at the Kouka School of Musical and Theatrical Arts, is inspired by the real-life famous Takarazuka Revue troupe. The captivating journey of Sarasa Watanabe and Ai Narata under the stage lights has long been one of the most beloved examples of the genre due to its dramatic depth and character development.
Looking at the history of the series, we can see how meticulously Kumiko Saiki has built this universe. The story actually began between 2012 and 2014 in Jump Kai magazine under the title Kageki Shojo!! Season Zero. Later moving to Melody magazine and focusing on the main story, the series was also successfully adapted into an anime by Pine Jam studio in 2021. Saiki's detailed drawing style and realistic portrayal of the backstage world of theater transformed the series from just a school drama into a profound art story.
This mandatory break, coming while the final arc is in full swing, is of great importance for the author to fully recover and conclude the story with the quality it deserves. While many fans are sending get-well messages to Saiki on social media, they are also impatient to see whether Sarasa will reach her dream role of "Oscar" with the return in June. For now, all we can do is wish the author a speedy recovery and revisit the old chapters until the grand finale!
