Early Surprise for Fairy Tail Fans: New Manga Series Starts Ahead of Schedule!

We have exciting news for Fairy Tail fans! The series creator, Hiro Mashima, has announced that the release date for the highly anticipated new Fairy Tail mini manga series has been moved up by a week. Originally scheduled to begin on August 5, 2026, the series will now meet readers on July 29, 2026, in the 35th issue of Weekly Shonen Magazine, thanks to Mashima's legendary work speed. In a statement on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Mashima noted that the editorial board made this unusual decision because he completed the drafts much faster than expected.
This new project is seen as one of the most important parts of the Fairy Tail brand's 20th-anniversary celebrations. Following the original series, which began in 2006 and ended in 2017, this mini-series marks the first Fairy Tail serialization that Mashima has both written and personally illustrated. As a reminder, while the story of the ongoing Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest belongs to Mashima, the illustrations were handled by Atsuo Ueda. Therefore, after a nine-year hiatus, fans will have the chance to see Natsu Dragneel, Lucy Heartfilia, and the other members of the guild drawn by Mashima himself once again.
Hiro Mashima's productivity has always been a subject of admiration in the industry. To focus on this new Fairy Tail story, the artist has put his ongoing dark fantasy series Dead Rock on a short hiatus. While Dead Rock is expected to return with a new arc in the winter months, the fact that Mashima is moving his projects forward even at this intense pace proves once again that he lives up to his nickname, the "machine of the manga world."
