New Manga by Masami Hosokawa Depicting Sengoku Period Friendship: First Volume of Yushibi Hits Shelves!

The first volume of the new manga series Yushibi: Otani Yoshitsugu to Ishida Mitsunari, Chikigiri no Hate, which tells the story of a legendary friendship born from the heart of Japan's turbulent Sengoku period, hit shelves on May 8th. This work, penned by mangaka Masami Hosokawa, invites readers to witness one of the most dramatic moments in Japanese history: the unwavering loyalty of two great warriors.
The manga centers on the story of Otani Yoshitsugu and Ishida Mitsunari, loyal retainers of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who lived in the late 16th century. These two figures are known in Japanese history for their roles, particularly in the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600, which changed the fate of the country. Yoshitsugu stood out for his intelligence and courage despite battling leprosy, while Mitsunari was known for his strategic genius as the commander of the Western Army. Their friendship lasted until the very end, despite Kobayakawa Hideaki's betrayal at Sekigahara, reaching a tragic end with Yoshitsugu's acceptance of defeat and suicide.
One of the most well-known examples of this deep bond occurred during a tea ceremony held at Osaka Castle in 1587. When a drop of pus fell into Yoshitsugu's tea bowl due to his illness, Ishida Mitsunari unhesitatingly took the bowl and drank from it, demonstrating his unwavering loyalty to his friend. This event symbolizes that they were not just political allies, but also deeply connected soulmates. Masami Hosokawa's manga explores such historical anecdotes and the inner worlds of the characters, showing readers that the Sengoku period was not just about wars
