Kodansha USA Licenses Eight New Manga Series: Here Are the Details

Major manga publisher Kodansha USA announced on July 25, 2026 that it has acquired the rights to publish eight new manga series in English. This licensing agreement covers both popular and lesser-known series, significantly contributing to the global reach of Japanese manga. The announcement was also confirmed by Anime News Network.
The licensed series include 'The Pool', 'Subaru and Subaru', 'Kraken Mare', 'The Cat and Dog's Nine-Tailed Lives', 'Rega in the Sleeping Forest', and 'Meaheim'. Each series represents different genres: 'The Pool' features mystery and thriller elements, while 'Subaru and Subaru' stands out in romantic drama. 'Kraken Mare' combines science fiction and sea monsters. 'The Cat and Dog's Nine-Tailed Lives' offers a mythology-themed adventure. 'Rega in the Sleeping Forest' is set in a fantasy world, and 'Meaheim' tells a story in the isekai genre.
As one of the largest manga publishers in the American market, Kodansha USA has previously brought major series such as 'Attack on Titan', 'Fairy Tail', and 'Tokyo Revengers' to English-speaking readers. These new licenses are part of the company's strategy to diversify its portfolio by investing in niche genres. In particular, series like 'The Cat and Dog's Nine-Tailed Lives' and 'Rega in the Sleeping Forest' draw attention with their narratives rooted in Japanese folklore.
Although official release dates have not been announced yet, Kodansha USA is known to typically release digital and print editions within 6-12 months after the licensing announcement. Fans can expect to see the first volumes of these series early next year on Kindle, ComiXology, and in bookstores. Furthermore, considering that some series were previously unofficially translated by scanlation communities, the official translations are expected to make a significant difference in quality and accuracy. Kodansha USA's move continues to increase the international accessibility of Japanese manga.
