A New Breath for Araki’s Classic Manga from Nisio Isin and Posuka Demizu: “魔老紳士ビーティー” Released

“魔老紳士ビーティー” (Ma-rō Shinshi Bītī), a new manga volume, was released today (June 18) in Japan. The book is based on the one-shot short work “魔少年ビーティー” (Ma-shōnen Bītī) drawn by famous mangaka Hirohiko Araki (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure) in 1982. The script is by Nisio Isin, creator of the Monogatari series and Katanagatari, and the illustrations are by Posuka Demizu, the successful illustrator of The Promised Neverland.
In this new version, the character "Bītī" from the original story appears as an aged gentleman. As the title suggests, the theme of “魔老紳士” (magical old gentleman) serves as a tribute to Araki’s gothic and mysterious storytelling while blending with Isin’s unique dialogue play. The work, which also had a different cover version published in the June issue of Ultra Jump magazine, offers a multi-layered experience for both old fans and new readers.
The original “魔少年ビーティー” was a short work from early in Araki’s career, before JoJo. Consisting of only two chapters, it became a rare piece sought after by collectors over the years. Shueisha entrusting this project to such two powerful names shows not only respect for Araki’s past but also how influential Isin and Demizu are in contemporary manga. Nisio Isin had previously written the novel “Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan” featuring Araki’s characters, so the collaboration between the two is not new.
The physical edition of the book has a different cover design from the version in Ultra Jump. In Shueisha’s official announcement, it was stated that the two covers complement each other and hold special meaning for collectors. Posuka Demizu’s soft yet detailed illustrations prove how well they harmonize with Araki’s original harsh and dynamic style. The fine details in the depiction of the aged Bītī, in particular, show how well Demizu understands the character’s essence.
This release is not just an adaptation; it also serves as a generational bridge in manga. The work, which pays tribute to Hirohiko Araki’s career spanning over 40 years, also brings together fans of Nisio Isin and Posuka Demizu. If you don’t want to miss this experience where both classic and modern manga intertwine, you can find the book on digital platforms in Turkey or order it from Japan. Although it has not been announced whether new chapters will follow, the cover version in Ultra Jump signals that the series may continue.
