Loss and Technology: New Manga "Prototype Noah" Meets Readers

Shodensha's beloved josei magazine Feel Young greeted its readers with an emotional and thought-provoking story in its June issue. The magazine, which hit shelves on May 8th, officially launched a brand new manga series titled Prototype Noah (プロトタイプ・ノア) by Yu Kokonoe. The series blends science fiction elements with deep drama, offering a different perspective on modern human loneliness and the grieving process.
At the center of the story is a young man struggling to cope with the heavy grief of losing his sister. While trying to fill this great void in his life, his path crosses with Noah, a "lover-type" humanoid robot. Noah appears as a prototype designed to meet human emotional needs, going beyond being just a machine. As the relationship between the two develops, the question "Can a robot replace true love?" forms the core conflict of the story.
The Feel Young magazine is known for hosting profound works that appeal to adult female readers (josei), such as Bunny Drop (Usagi Drop) and Helter Skelter. Yu Kokonoe starting a new series on this platform signals that Prototype Noah will also offer a character-driven narrative with high emotional intensity. The presence of popular series like Onna no Sono no Hoshi and Branchline in the same issue of the magazine shows that the new manga has found its place in a very prestigious selection.
Although the theme of artificial intelligence and human relationships has been frequently explored in the manga world in recent years, Prototype Noah draws attention by addressing this subject directly through the themes of "grief" and "loss." Readers will see how a technological entity interacts with a human.
