One of the favorite series for tea lovers and those seeking peaceful stories, Rokuhōdō Yotsuiro Biyori, is changing form and stepping onto the stage. According to an official announcement by Shinchosha, the popular manga series by Yū Shimizu is receiving its first stage musical adaptation. This new production will meet audiences in the heart of Tokyo, Shibuya, between October 16 and 25, 2026. The series creator, Yū Shimizu, doubled the fans' excitement by sharing a special illustration to celebrate this thrilling development.
The musical's cast consists of quite remarkable names. Kaname Futaba will portray the tea house owner Sui, while his twin brother Yū Futaba will be on stage in the role of Yakyō. Other key names in the cast include Ryō Hirano (Tokitaka), Taiki Naito (Tsubaki), and Yūya Uno (Gure). Yūichi Harada sits in the director's chair for the production, while the script and lyrics are penned by Tsuneyasu Motoyoshi. The name behind the music will be composer Kotona Nishi.
Starting its publication life in Go Go Bunch magazine in 2013, Rokuhōdō Yotsuiro Biyori tells the story of four handsome and talented men working in a traditional Japanese tea house. Tea expert Sui, food specialist Tokitaka, dessert master Tsubaki, and latte art expert Gure not only offer delicious treats but also provide remedies for their customers' personal troubles. With its 22nd volume hitting shelves as of January 2026, the manga is considered one of the most successful examples of the "iyashikei" (healing/peaceful) genre.
This musical is not the series' first major adaptation. Rokuhōdō Yotsuiro Biyori previously inspired a 12-episode anime series in 2018 and a live-action series starring Nozomu Kotaki in 2022. For fans, this musical offers a great opportunity to experience the warm friendship between the characters and the unique atmosphere of the tea house through a live performance. Whether the production will tour other cities in Japan following the October shows remains a subject of curiosity.
