Sakura Tamaki's 40th Anniversary: "NOW AND THEN" Exhibition Begins in Tokyo

One of the most original and unique names in the manga world, Sakura Tamaki, is crowning her 40th year in her professional career with a magnificent event. The exhibition titled "NOW AND THEN", organized to celebrate both the artist's long-standing career and the fourth volume of her newly released Hibi Ware Ningen (Daily Me Human) series, will open its doors at the ORAND / OUET gallery in Tokyo's Sumida district between May 22nd and June 8th.
This special exhibition is more than just a retrospective; it also offers a rare opportunity for collectors. At the event, original manuscripts and drawings from the Hibi Ware Ningen series will not only be exhibited, but some of these works will also be available for purchase. Additionally, never-before-seen secret documents and sketches from the artist's archive will meet fans for the first time. The first three days of the exhibition (May 22-24) will operate by appointment due to high demand, and original drawings will be sold on a "first come, first served" basis; therefore, serious collectors will need to act quickly.
Sakura Tamaki entered the manga world in 1986 with Shiawase no Katachi (The Shape of Happiness), published in the legendary Weekly Famitsu magazine (then known as Famicom Tsushin). Western fans might know her better by her pseudonym Charlie Nozawa, from the Super Mario Adventures comic she drew for Nintendo Power magazine. Throughout her career, Tamaki has produced a wide range of works, from gag manga blending video game culture with humor, to "daily manga" (essay manga) where she recounts her own life with honesty and irony.
