Tama Yukki's "Aoi no Hana Utsuwa no Mori" Manga Gets Live-Action Drama on NHK: Rena Matsui Stars

Another manga combining fine arts and emotional depth is coming to the screen. Tama Yukki's “Aoi no Hana Utsuwa no Mori” (Blue Flower, Vessel Forest) will meet viewers this fall on NHK's popular “Night Drama” slot. Rena Matsui (former AKB48 member and successful actress) has been cast as the lead. Matsui will bring to life the young potter Aoko at the center of the story.
According to the official announcement, the drama is based on Tama Yukki's manga of the same name. The manga deals with themes of ceramic art and personal healing; it tells the story of a woman who takes over her father's pottery workshop in a small town, confronting both the craft and the wounds of the past. The original work was serialized in Shodensha's Feel Young magazine from 2020 to 2023 and compiled into 4 volumes. It received high praise from readers for its simple drawings and in-depth depictions of the pottery-making process.
NHK's “Night Drama” slot, which airs 15-minute episodes every weekday night, has previously hosted acclaimed works such as “Kimi no Suizō wo Tabetai” and “Okaeri Mone”. The projects chosen by this channel are usually quiet, narrative-driven stories that deal with subtle issues of contemporary society. “Aoi no Hana Utsuwa no Mori” fits this profile perfectly: the meditative nature of ceramic art is blended with universal emotions like loss and rediscovery.
Rena Matsui previously made a name for herself with productions such as “Kamen Rider Wizard”, “Yell” (NHK morning drama), and “Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?”. With this project, she will deepen her lead role experience. The drama is said to be directed by Keiichi Hara (official confirmation is awaited). Filming is scheduled to begin this summer.
This adaptation is a big source of excitement for manga fans. Because “Aoi no Hana Utsuwa no Mori” is not just a pottery story; it is also a detailed and sensitive narrative in which the production process turns into a spiritual journey. Moreover, NHK's Night Drama format, with its short episodes, allows every moment of the story to be explored. The drama is expected to air this fall in Japan, around October-November 2025. Although an official streaming platform has not yet been announced in Turkey, NHK's international distribution rights are usually handled via Crunchyroll or Netflix – so there is a high possibility that it will be available on an online platform in the coming months.
