Tengu no Daidokoro Returns for a 3rd Season: A Brand New Story Awaits Us This Autumn!

The live-action adaptation of the highly acclaimed Tengu no Daidokoro (Tengu's Kitchen) manga, written by Ai Tanaka, is preparing to greet its fans with a third season. The new season, which will air on BS-TBS, will meet viewers this autumn in the "Thursday Drama 23" time slot. The most notable feature of this season is that it will feature a completely original story prepared under the direct supervision of the original creator, Ai Tanaka.
The series follows the story of a young boy named On, who learns that he is descended from a Tengu upon turning 14. According to tradition, youths with this heritage must live in seclusion in the mountains for one year. During this process, On embarks on an adventure focused on cooking and the "slow life" in the heart of nature with his older brother, Hitoshi. The manga, which began serialization in Kodansha's Monthly Afternoon magazine in 2021, quickly reached a wide audience with its peaceful atmosphere.
The series stars Komakine Kiita as Hitoshi and Koshigaya Gaku as On. The production, with its first season airing in October 2023 and its second in October 2024, is considered one of the most successful examples of the "iyashikei" (healing/peaceful) genre, particularly for the aesthetics of its food scenes and its portrayal of brotherly bonds. The fact that the third season will proceed with an original screenplay signals that it will go beyond the manga's current story arc and expand the universe.
For fans, this news serves as proof of how solid the series' popularity is. While manga adaptations usually try to stay faithful to the source material, original stories supervised by the author both offer new surprises and maintain character depth. New episodes of Tengu no Daidokoro will air every Thursday at 23:00 (Japan Standard Time). It looks like this autumn will be quite enjoyable for those who miss the tranquility of nature and delicious recipes.
