World Trigger Manga Goes on a One-Month Hiatus Due to Health Issues: Daisuke Ashihara Takes a Break

Sad news for World Trigger fans, but encouraging news for the author's health. The new chapter expected to appear in the June issue of Jump SQ magazine has been postponed due to the physical condition of the series' creator, Daisuke Ashihara. The series will meet its readers again on May 2, 2026, after a break of approximately one month. Such breaks are generally met with understanding by the community, given the chronic health issues Ashihara has been battling for a long time.
Starting its publication life in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2013, World Trigger quickly gained a large audience with its strategic combat system and deep character development. However, the serious health problems Ashihara has been experiencing since 2014, particularly cervical spondylosis (neck arthritis) affecting his neck area, caused the series to take a massive two-year hiatus between 2016 and 2018. Although the series moved to the monthly Jump SQ magazine in 2018, which has a more relaxed pace than the weekly format, the author's health sometimes necessitates such short breaks.
This news comes at a time when major announcements are being made about the future of the series. Last December, Toei Animation announced a "Reboot Project" that will revisit the first season of the series with more modern animation quality. Additionally, the World Trigger Festival 2026 held today (April 26, 2026) once again proved the fans' passion for the series. Ashihara's meticulous world-building and complex power balances continue to be one of the biggest features that distinguish the series from other shonen works.
According to current plans, the next chapter of World Trigger will be included in the new issue of Jump SQ, which will be published on May 2. Fans are eagerly waiting for the adventures of Osamu Mikumo, Yuma Kuga, and Chika Amatori to continue from where they left off. This short break is of great importance for the author to recover his physical condition and prepare for the critical turning points of the story in the future.
