Yowamushi Pedal Reaches Volume 100: Massive Celebration Begins in Akihabara!

A historic moment for Yowamushi Pedal fans! The beloved manga series written by Wataru Watanabe has achieved a major milestone by crossing the 100-volume mark. To celebrate this massive achievement, Tokyo's famous Akihabara district—the place where the cycling journey of the series' main character Sakamichi Onoda began—has transformed into a "Yowamushi Pedal" festival. As part of the "Akihabara Jack" campaign, which will run until May 17, 2026, digital screens and billboards in the area are being decorated with unforgettable moments from the series.
Published in Weekly Shōnen Champion magazine since 2008, Yowamushi Pedal has gone beyond being just a sports manga, increasing interest in cycling worldwide. Reaching 100 volumes is a feat that very few series in the manga world have achieved, and it holds a special meaning for this series: Yowamushi Pedal has earned the title of the first series in the history of Weekly Shōnen Champion to reach 100 volumes under a single title without being split. Having sold over 32 million copies worldwide to date, the series has secured an unshakable place among modern sports manga.
The story follows the discovery of high school student Sakamichi Onoda, who used to ride his old bicycle (mamachari) 90 kilometers every week from Chiba to Akihabara to buy anime figures and games. The author Wataru Watanabe is known for being an avid cycling enthusiast himself, and he has even established a real cycling team to support young cyclists with the income he has earned from the series. The event in Akihabara offers a wide visual spectrum, from nostalgic scenes from the early days of the series to the most recent races. Fans are celebrating Sohoku High School and their rivals Hakone Academy.
