New Project from Renowned Director Joon-ik Lee: Webtoon 'Father's Home Meal' Becomes a Short Series

Joon-ik Lee, one of the most respected names in South Korean cinema, is turning his focus to the rising trend of short-format series in the digital world. The director has rolled up his sleeves to adapt author Gorita's popular webtoon Father's Home Meal into a live-action series. The production, which finished filming on March 24, 2026, is currently in post-production and is preparing to meet audiences in the second half of the year.
At the heart of the series lies the story of the mother, Soon-ae, who loses her ability to cook after an accident, and the father, Ha-eung, who has stayed away from the kitchen his entire life. As Ha-eung takes on the responsibility of his family and steps up to the stove for the first time, the cooking process turns into more than just feeding them; it becomes a tool to rediscover and heal family bonds. The series stars veteran actors Jung Jin-young, Lee Jung-eun, and Byun Yo-han as the observant son of the family.
Director Joon-ik Lee stated that this project is a first for him, expressing that the use of a vertical frame will offer the opportunity to observe the characters' deepest emotions and inner worlds more clearly. Promising a sincere narrative to fans, Lee said, "We have processed the story more deeply for a visual medium without losing the warmth of the original work." The fact that a director known for epic productions like The King and the Clown and The Book of Fish is focusing on such a personal and everyday story has sparked great curiosity in the industry.
Father's Home Meal will be broadcast exclusively on the short series platform Lezhin Snack. In this era where webtoon adaptations dominate the K-Drama world, this production stands out from the rest with both its format and the giant names behind it. This story, written by Gorita, who is known for emotional depth and realistic character development, seems poised to be one of the most talked-about digital works of 2026 with the masterful touch of Joon-ik Lee.
