Made in Korea's Prequel Webtoon Released: Baek's Nine-Year Rise Told
Disney+ has released a prequel webtoon for the live-action series Made in Korea. Thanks to this webtoon, fans of the Korean crime drama can fill the nine-year gap between the first and second seasons. According to the announcement, the story focuses on Baek's rise to the center of power.
The series, starring Hyun Bin and Jung Woo-sung, premiered on Disney+ in 2025. The production, which deals with Baek's rise in the organized crime world and a prosecutor's efforts to stop him, brought the social upheavals of the 1970s and 1980s to the screen in a realistic manner. In the director's chair sits Woo Min-ho, who has helmed crime dramas such as Inside Men and The Drug King.
The prequel webtoon visually tells this nine-year period that was not directly shown in the series. Baek's transformation from a power-hungry figure to a central player in events forms the main conflict of the webtoon. This also gives readers important context about both the characters and the dark world of the series ahead of the second season.
Such connected content has become an important part of streaming platforms' universe-expansion strategies.
