Fullmetal Alchemist

To obtain something, something of equal value must be lost. This is the Law of Equivalent Exchange, the absolute rule of alchemy. For young brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric, this law becomes a harsh reality when they attempt the ultimate taboo: human transmutation to resurrect their deceased mother. The ritual goes disastrously wrong, costing Edward his left leg and Alphonse his entire body. In a final act of desperation, Edward sacrifices his right arm to bind his brother's soul to a suit of armor, marking the beginning of their tragic but hopeful journey.

Equipped with advanced mechanical prosthetics known as 'auto-mail,' Edward joins the Amestris military as a State Alchemist—the 'Fullmetal Alchemist'—to gain access to the resources needed to find the Philosopher's Stone. This legendary artifact is said to be the only thing that can bypass the laws of alchemy and restore their bodies. However, the brothers soon discover that they are not the only ones seeking the stone, and the military they serve is riddled with corruption and dangerous secrets.

As they travel across a steampunk-inspired world, Ed and Al encounter allies like the ambitious Colonel Roy Mustang and the mechanic Winry Rockbell, as well as terrifying enemies known as Homunculi. Beneath the surface of their quest lies a deep conspiracy that threatens the entire nation. Fullmetal Alchemist is a masterclass in storytelling that weaves together intense action, political intrigue, and profound philosophical questions about life, death, and redemption.
