Toilet-bound Hanako-kun

Kamome Academy is famous for its "Seven Mysteries," urban legends that haunt the school's grounds and define its supernatural atmosphere. The most famous of these is Hanako-san, a spirit residing in the third stall of the third-floor girls' bathroom who is said to grant any wish for a price. Desperate for a romantic connection, high schooler Nene Yashiro summons the spirit, only to find that "Hanako-san" is actually a boy named Hanako. After a series of unfortunate events involving a mermaid's curse, Nene becomes Hanako's human assistant, helping him maintain the delicate balance between the human and spirit worlds.

As the story unfolds, Nene and Hanako are joined by Kou Minamoto, a young exorcist from a prestigious family who initially seeks to banish Hanako but eventually becomes a close ally. Together, they investigate the various mysteries of the school, encountering spirits that are often shaped and empowered by the rumors spread by the student body. The series masterfully explores the concept of "rumors" as a force that defines a supernatural's existence, forcing the trio to manipulate these stories to keep malevolent spirits at bay.

Beyond its whimsical premise and unique, vibrant art style, Toilet-bound Hanako-kun delves into deeper themes of mortality, regret, and the mystery of Hanako's past life. While the series offers plenty of comedic moments and charming character interactions, it is underscored by a bittersweet atmosphere as Nene learns more about the boy behind the legend. With its captivating blend of Japanese folklore and modern storytelling, this series offers a poignant look at the unbreakable bonds between the living and the dead.
