Doraemon Anime Comes to New Regions in English: Cake and TV Asahi Partnership

One of the longest-running and most beloved anime series in the world, Doraemon, will now reach a wider English-speaking audience. Streaming platform Cake and Japan's leading broadcaster TV Asahi have formed a strategic partnership to distribute the iconic blue robot cat's adventures with English dubbing to the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and parts of the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) region. According to Anime News Network, the deal was announced on June 22, 2026.
So why is this move so important? Doraemon, created by Fujiko F. Fujio and first published as a manga in 1969, is a cultural phenomenon. The anime adaptation that began in 1973 reached generations of viewers, especially in Asia. However, in the West, particularly in English-speaking countries, the series' presence had been limited. Although there were brief releases on platforms like Disney XD (2014) and Amazon Prime Video, widespread and lasting accessibility was not achieved. Cake's move offers a great opportunity to introduce Doraemon to new generations and revive nostalgia.
Cake is a platform that has previously helped distribute major series like Pokémon and One Piece in the West. TV Asahi, as the original broadcaster and rights holder of Doraemon in Japan, plays a critical role in this agreement. The partnership may cover not only episodes of Doraemon but also its feature films and specials. No exact release date or content list has been announced yet, but it is a matter of curiosity whether Cake will broadcast via a subscription-based model or an ad-supported channel.
This announcement is a significant step in Doraemon's globalization goal. It should be remembered that Doraemon was selected as an "Anime Cultural Ambassador" by Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2012. Now, this ambassador has the chance to reach more children and adults in English-speaking countries. The biggest question for fans is which subtitle options the series will offer and whether the old voice cast will be retained. More detailed information is expected from Cake and TV Asahi in the coming months. Stay tuned, because the surprises from Doraemon's pocket are not over yet!
