Doraemon Heads to Vietnam! A 'Banh Mi' Surprise in a Special Episode for Shizuka's Birthday

The blue robot cat Doraemon and his friends are setting their course for the pearl of Southeast Asia, Vietnam! The special episode, airing on May 23rd, was prepared to both celebrate the birthday month of the series' beloved character Shizuka and to crown the theatrical release of the series' 43rd film, Doraemon the Movie: Nobita's Earth Symphony, in Vietnam. In this special episode, fans will witness the return of one of the series' most iconic gadgets with a local twist.
The most striking detail of the episode is that Doraemon's famous Translation Jelly (Honyaku Konnyaku) gadget will appear in a version flavored like Vietnam's world-famous street food, Banh Mi. This jelly, which normally serves to translate languages instantly, will accompany Nobita and his team this time with the taste of that famous Vietnamese sandwich bread. This creative touch serves as a tribute to the series' Vietnamese fans while building a fun cultural bridge for viewers around the world.
Doraemon's bond with Vietnam actually has a quite deep and emotional history. The series has been considered a "national phenomenon" in Vietnam since the early 1990s. In fact, the series' creator Fujiko F. Fujio visited Vietnam in 1996 and established the Doraemon Scholarship Fund, which is still active for the education of underprivileged children in the country. This new special episode, combined with the celebrations for the creator's 90th birthday, honors this deep-rooted legacy of the series once again.
So, what awaits us in this episode? While the story shapes itself around Shizuka's birthday celebrations, our team will embark on an adventure amidst the fascinating landscapes of Vietnam. Airing before the Nobita's Earth Symphony film, which will hit Vietnamese theaters on May 24th, this episode proves once again what a unifying force the series is on a global scale. If you are a Doraemon fan, we recommend you do not miss this delicious and emotional adventure!
