Future GPX Cyber Formula Celebrates Its 35th Anniversary with a New Anime Sequel and Game

The legendary racing series Future GPX Cyber Formula is celebrating its 35th anniversary with a major announcement that has excited its fans. According to the official statement by Bandai Namco Filmworks, a new short anime project is coming as a direct sequel to the 1998 fan-favorite Future GPX Cyber Formula SIN. This new production aims to continue the series' legacy with a modern touch while remaining faithful to its classic spirit.
The new short anime will be approximately six minutes long and will introduce viewers to a new racing machine called the Zenith Asurada AKF-S0/G, designed by the series' legendary mechanical designer Shoji Kawamori. The most notable detail from the production team is the animation style; it has been stated that the new project will be produced entirely with hand-drawn animation and will not use CGI. This decision is of great importance to the loyal fanbase that misses the aesthetic of the series' golden age in the 90s.
Looking at the history of the series, Future GPX Cyber Formula first entered our lives in 1991 as a television series led by director Mitsuo Fukuda. Combining the world of futuristic racing with AI-supported vehicles and deep character dramas, the production expanded its universe with OVA series such as 11, ZERO, SAGA, and SIN. In particular, the relentless rivalry between Hayato Kazami and Bleed Kaga is considered one of the most iconic sports stories in anime history.
In addition to the anime announcement, a new video game titled Future GPX Cyber Formula Spiral has also been made official. The game's story will feature a completely original script prepared under the supervision of the series' general director Mitsuo Fukuda. As part of the 35th-anniversary celebrations, pop-up stores will open in Tokyo and Osaka, and special collector's figures produced by MegaHouse will also be offered to fans. These new projects show that the Cyber Formula legend is not just nostalgia, but continues at full speed with new generation content.
