Intelligent Animation Adapts Two Popular Tapas Webtoons into Anime: AI and Traditional Drawing Combined

Two beloved works from the webtoon world are coming to life through a new project that pushes the boundaries of technology and art. The newly established Intelligent Animation studio has officially announced that The Dragon Prince's Bride and The Prince's Personal Physician, which are among the most-read titles on the Tapas platform, will be adapted into animated series. This move is not only the studio's first major project but also opens the doors to a new era in the industry regarding the use of artificial intelligence in animation production.
The studio will not rely solely on traditional methods for these projects; it will follow a hybrid production process that blends traditional animation techniques, visual effects (VFX), and advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. Intelligent Animation officials state that this method will both increase visual quality and make the production schedule more efficient. Although the use of artificial intelligence in the industry has been a highly controversial topic recently, the studio aims to position this technology as a tool that supports artists' creativity and lightens their workload.
The first work to be adapted, The Dragon Prince's Bride, is known as an epic story written by D.A. Lemoyne that combines dragon kingdoms with romance. The other production, The Prince's Personal Physician, is a gripping fantasy drama written by Zaya that revolves around palace intrigue and a mysterious doctor. Both series have reached millions of views on Tapas and have gained a large global fan base. It is a matter of curiosity what kind of visual language these works, especially in the romantic fantasy genre, will present in an animated format.
These projects are seen as an important part of the strategy of Tapas Media, a subsidiary of Kakao Entertainment, to move its intellectual properties (IP) to different media. The webtoon-to-anime bridge, which has gained momentum in recent years with examples like Solo Leveling and Tower of God, seems set to diversify even further with this new technological approach. While fans are eagerly waiting to see how artificial intelligence will affect the aesthetics of these beloved characters and in what direction it will take the animation quality, the first trailers and release dates are expected to be shared in the coming months.
