The Finale of the Mononoke Film Trilogy is Coming: Hebigami Trailer and Release Date Announced

The moment Mononoke fans have been waiting for has arrived! A new trailer has been released for Gekijōban Mononoke Dai-San-Shō: Hebigami (Mononoke Movie: Chapter 3 – Serpent God), the final installment of the series' highly anticipated trilogy. According to the official announcement, the film will be released in theaters in Japan on May 29, 2026. This final chapter will epically conclude the Medicine Seller's mysterious journey into the depths of the Ooku.
The new film takes viewers back to the Ooku, located within the inner reaches of Edo Castle, where a 150-year-old dark secret is hidden. The trailer reveals the chaos created by broken promises made to a god named "O-mizu-sama" and a massive serpent figure born from the repressed emotions of women. Once again captivating with its visual style, the production will see Kusuriuri (the Medicine Seller) forced to face one of the darkest and most tragic mononoke in history. Details shared alongside the trailer indicate that this chapter will be the darkest installment of the trilogy.
Prepared under the general direction of series creator Kenji Nakamura, this project is part of a major trilogy launched to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Mononoke. The first film, Karakasa, met audiences in July 2024, and the second film, Hinezumi, in March 2025. Studio EOTA is once again in the animation seat, while Taku Iwasaki provides the music. Furthermore, the iconic main character of the series continues to be voiced by the famous voice actor Hiroshi Kamiya, who replaced Takahiro Sakurai after his controversial departure from the cast.
