Netflix's Live-Action Gundam Movie Cast Expands: Filming Has Officially Begun!

Netflix has pressed the button on the first live-action feature film for the legendary mecha series Mobile Suit Gundam. It has been confirmed that Sydney Sweeney and Noah Centineo will star in the project, and filming has officially begun in Queensland, Australia. This massive-budget production will bring one of the most established franchises in the anime world to the big screen and digital platforms with real actors for the first time.
New additions to the cast include experienced actors such as Jason Isaacs, Nonso Anozie, and Jackson White. Additionally, Javon Walton, Oleksandr Rudynskyi, Ida Brooke, Michael Mando, and Shioli Kutsuna have been announced as other names who will take part in this epic story. The film is being directed and written by Jim Mickle, the creator of the hit Netflix series Sweet Tooth. Mickle aims to bring a fresh perspective to the series, taking over from Jordan Vogt-Roberts, who was previously linked to the project.
Created in 1979 by Yoshiyuki Tomino, the Gundam universe is considered the pioneer of the "Real Robot" genre. Brought to life in collaboration with Legendary Pictures and Bandai Namco Filmworks, this project will combine the franchise's more than 45-year legacy with modern cinematic technology. The film will feature an original screenplay focusing on the story of rival mecha pilots caught in the middle of a war that has lasted for decades between Earth and space colonies.
For fans, this film represents the realization of the long-held dream of a "live-action Gundam." The audience, previously excited by the brief RX-78-2 scene in the movie Ready Player One, is now preparing to watch a full-scale war drama. With production officially underway, the first set photos and iconic mecha designs are expected to be shared in the coming months.
