Netflix Shares New Updates for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, The One Piece, and Blue Eye Samurai at Anime NYC

Netflix made significant announcements that excited anime fans at the Anime NYC (ANYC) event held last weekend. The streaming giant shared new information about the production progress and release dates for highly anticipated projects such as Cyberpunk: Edgerunners season 2, The One Piece, Blue Eye Samurai, and Bass x Machina. These updates once again highlight how serious Netflix's investment is in high-profile anime adaptations and original productions.
One of the highlights of the event was Cyberpunk: Edgerunners season 2. The series, whose first season aired in 2022 and received full marks from both critics and viewers, had gained a large fan base with its story set in CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077 universe. Netflix confirmed that production on the second season is ongoing and that the story will expand with new characters in the dark streets of Night City. However, no specific release date has been given yet; the production is expected to be completed towards the end of 2025.
Another big piece of news came for The One Piece. It was announced last year that Netflix would re-adapt Eiichiro Oda's legendary manga into an anime. According to the statement made at ANYC, this new adaptation, being prepared by Wit Studio, will begin with the East Blue story and follow a line more faithful to the original manga. Netflix announced that a large portion of the project's first season has been completed and it is planned to be released within 2025. This is an exciting development, especially for fans who wanted a restart of the long-running One Piece anime.
Netflix also gave good news for a new season of Blue Eye Samurai, which received great acclaim in 2023. The production, created by Amber Noizumi and Michael Green, had drawn attention with its revenge story set in Edo-period Japan. In the statement made at ANYC, it was noted that the script phase for the second season has been completed and animation work has begun. Additionally, the first visuals for a new original anime project titled Bass x Machina were shared; it was stated that this project will offer an original story combining mecha and music themes.
These announcements show that Netflix is strengthening its claim in the anime field. In recent years, the company had established a serious presence in the anime world with productions such as Castlevania, Arcane, and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Especially reinterpreting a giant brand like The One Piece is both a big risk and a big opportunity. While fans eagerly await how these projects will turn out, Netflix is expected to share more details in the coming months. An exciting period is beginning for the anime world!
