Three New Voice Actors Join the New Magic Knight Rayearth Anime

Recently, an exciting voice cast announcement was made for the new adaptation of the Magic Knight Rayearth anime. According to Anime News Network, the voice actors for three important characters have been revealed: Saori Hayami as Emeraude, Yūki Ono as Zagato, and Mika Kikuchi as the adorable Mokona. This announcement, following the previously announced main cast, has now clarified the series' villain and supporting characters.
As you may recall, Magic Knight Rayearth is a manga series created by CLAMP between 1993 and 1995. The first anime adaptation aired in 1994, followed by a second season, Message, in 1997. Considered a classic isekai pioneer, this story follows three young girls (Hikaru, Umi, Fuu) who are summoned to a magical world and fight to save a sorceress princess. Despite the years, the series has never lost its fan base, and last year it was officially announced that a new anime adaptation was in the works.
Among the notable names in the new voice cast, Saori Hayami (Attack on Titan's Ymir, Demon Slayer's Shinobu) will voice Princess Emeraude, a key character in the series. Yūki Ono (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure's Josuke, Haikyuu!!'s Kuroo) will voice the evil wizard Zagato. Mika Kikuchi (Pokémon's Bonnie, Healin' Good Pretty Cure) will be the voice of the cute Mokona. Mokona stands out as one of the most beloved characters in the original series, balancing comedy and emotional elements.
This news holds great significance, especially for anime fans who grew up in the 90s. Because Magic Knight Rayearth is not only one of CLAMP's first major adaptations but also one of the rare productions of that time that strongly featured female heroines. The new anime promises to retell the classic story with modern animation techniques. Although the exact release date has not been finalized, it is expected to air sometime in 2026. Previously, the voice actors for the main characters Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu were announced; with these new additions, the cast appears to be largely complete.
For now, fans are wondering how faithful this new adaptation will be to the original series and whether it will retain CLAMP's distinctive aesthetic. On the other hand, this project, part of the 'nostalgia wave' in the industry, will allow Magic Knight Rayearth to meet a new generation of viewers. Stay tuned for further updates!
