Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi Anime Coming This Summer, First Episode to Screen at Anime Expo

Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi anime is preparing for its official release in the summer. At Anime Expo 2026, a special preview of the first episode will be held on July 2. According to Anime News Network, new team members will also be announced at the event.
This new production is based on The Ninth Jedi, one of the most popular short films from the Star Wars: Visions anthology series released in 2021. The original short film was produced by Production I.G and directed by Kenji Kamiyama. Now, under the same team's leadership, this story is being expanded into a multi-episode series.
Star Wars: Visions received great acclaim for allowing different Japanese animation studios to interpret the galaxy in their own style. In particular, The Ninth Jedi became a fan favorite with its lightsaber crafting and mysterious Jedi teachings. This new series is expected to expand on the clues left by the original short film and offer a deeper narrative.
Although the global release date on Netflix or Disney+ has not been finalized, it is highly likely to appear on digital platforms in the summer. The Anime Expo screening will provide first impressions of the series' tone and visual style. It is a must-watch for those who love to see the Star Wars universe through an anime lens this summer.
