OceanVeil Adds "Chainsmoker Cat" Anime to Summer Lineup

OceanVeil, one of the rising platforms in the anime world, has made an exciting announcement for the summer season. The platform has officially revealed that it has added the anime adaptation of the Chainsmoker Cat (known in Japanese as Yani Neko) series, created by Nyan Nyan Factory and boasting a large fanbase, to its summer list. Premiering on July 2, 2026, the series will be available to viewers in both standard and uncensored versions.
Chainsmoker Cat takes place in a modern Japan where humans and cat-girls live together. At the center of the story is a cat-girl named Yani, who suffers from a severe nicotine addiction and struggles to survive in her smoke-filled apartment. Yani's tragicomic struggle for life, battling unemployment, unpaid rent, and endless cigarette cravings, is brightened by the help of her friends and sister. The series first began publication in Kodansha's Weekly Young Magazine in February 2023 and quickly achieved cult status.
The anime is being produced by Bibury Animation Studios, which has previously delivered successful works. Taku Kimura sits in the director's chair, while the screenplay is written by Takashi Aoshima. Character designs are entrusted to Riki Matsuura, and the music is composed by Keiichi Suzuki. The addition of this series to the OceanVeil platform is of great importance for the global accessibility of niche and adult-oriented productions. Since its launch in 2025, the platform has become a key destination for anime fans looking for unlicensed or exclusive content.
The biggest surprise for fans is that the series will be presented in two different versions. In addition to the "On-Air" version prepared for television broadcast, the uncensored version, which remains faithful to the director's original vision and is titled "Evil Dragon Unleashed," will also be available on the platform. This production, in which Yūko Natsuyoshi will bring the character of Yani to life, appears to be a candidate for one of the most talked-about works of the summer season. If you are looking for an unconventional, slightly gritty, yet sincere story, keep your eyes on OceanVeil this July.
