A Giant Step from Piccoma: Popular Webtoons Are Coming in Short Anime Format!

Kakao Piccoma, one of the world's largest digital comic platforms, is preparing to reshuffle the deck in the content world. The Japan-based company announced that it will add a brand-new short-form anime category called "Animeme" (ANIME) to its platform in late May 2026. With this move, we will be able to watch the stories we love—not just read them—accompanied by a short and intense visual feast suitable for our mobile devices.
With the launch, six popular webtoon series will be adapted into anime in the first phase. These productions include hit titles such as The Viridescent Tiara, a favorite among fantasy and romance enthusiasts, the action-packed The Reincarnated Assassin Is a Swordmaster, and Post-Possession Damage Control. Additionally, Jack Be Invincible, Why Yuria Hid Her Wealth, and Destined to Be an Outcast are among the pioneers of this new format. The episodes are expected to be presented in short, few-minute formats in line with today's fast consumption habits.
One of the most remarkable aspects of this project is the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology in the production process. Kakao Piccoma stated that they have integrated AI technology directly into the process to maximize production efficiency, but that human oversight continues during the creative direction and quality control stages. A company official evaluated this step by saying, "We will put all our strength into improving our service to expand intellectual property (IP) rights and establish a deeper connection with global readers."
On the business model side, Piccoma is bringing a system we are familiar with from the webtoon world to videos. Users will be able to rent episodes individually.
