Rascal Does Not Dream Series Bids Farewell to Mai Sakurajima with a Special "Memorial" Visual: High School Era Ends

The Rascal Does Not Dream (Seishun Buta Yarou) series, one of the most beloved productions in the popular anime world, has surprised fans with an emotional tribute to mark the end of the high school era. A special "Memorial Visual" and a commemorative video have been shared for the series' iconic main female character, Mai Sakurajima. This special content was prepared to officially conclude the story arc covering the series' high school years and to celebrate the success of the latest film, Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend.
Based on the light novel series written by Hajime Kamoshida and illustrated by Keji Mizoguchi, the production reached a massive audience with its 13-episode anime series first aired in 2018. The story revolves around "Puberty Syndrome," which are physical manifestations of the psychological problems experienced by teenagers. The deep bond between Sakuta Azusagawa and Mai Sakurajima elevated the series from a mere supernatural drama to a modern classic. Following the 2019 film Dreaming Girl, the high school story concluded with the 2023 films Sister Venturing Out and Knapsack Kid.
The newly released visual brings together the various outfits Mai Sakurajima has worn since the beginning of the series and her most unforgettable moments. The transitions between the character's famous "bunny girl" costume, in which she was first introduced, and her school uniform serve as a nostalgic journey for fans. The production studio CloverWorks aims to honor Mai's character development and the evolution of her relationship with Sakuta through this visual. The post, which received great attention on social media, caused emotional moments among the series' loyal followers.
The conclusion of the high school era does not mean the series is over. The good news for fans is that an anime adaptation for the next stage of the series, the University Arc, has already been announced. This new chapter, where Sakuta and Mai transition into university life, will focus on the characters' steps into adulthood and more complex syndromes. Although the release date for the new season has not yet been finalized, this memorial visual pays tribute to the series' past while keeping the excitement alive for future adventures.
