New Cast Announced for Mr. Osomatsu's Second Live-Action Film: The "New Osomatsu Brothers" Are Coming!
Exciting news for fans of the beloved anime and manga series Mr. Osomatsu (Osomatsu-san)! The cast for the series' second live-action feature film continues to expand. According to the official announcement, talented members of the Kansai Junior group—Atsushi Ito, Kaito Noda, Taiga Watanabe, and Shintaro Sumi—will appear in the film as the "New Osomatsu Brothers" (Shin Osomatsu Brothers). This project marks the first feature film experience for all four young talents.
The film, scheduled for release in Japan on June 12, 2026, was initially announced for January but was postponed to the summer due to various production processes and scheduling changes. In the new film, the main sextuplets (the Matsuno brothers) are portrayed by members of the popular idol group Ae! Group and Takuya Nishimura. Seiya Suezawa (Osomatsu), Yoshinori Masakado (Karamatsu), Masaya Sano (Choromatsu), Ken Kojima (Ichimatsu), Keita Richard Kusama (Jushimatsu), and Takuya Nishimura (Todomatsu) will meet the audience in their respective roles. This new cast replaces the Snow Man group from the first film, which was released in 2022 and achieved great success.
The Mr. Osomatsu legend is actually based on the Osomatsu-kun manga by legendary artist Fujio Akatsuka, published between 1962 and 1969. While the original series focused on the childhood adventures of the sextuplet brothers, the modern anime adaptation, launched in 2015 to honor Akatsuka's 80th birthday, turned into a global phenomenon by humorously depicting the brothers in their 20s as unemployed and mischievous (NEETs). The first live-action film in 2022 grossed 1.38 billion yen at the Japanese box office, becoming one of the most successful anime adaptations of that year.
The new film, directed by Taisuke Kawamura—known for successful adaptations like Nodame Cantabile and Kuragehime—has a quite intriguing full title: Eiga Osomatsu-san Jinrui Kuzu-ka Keikaku !!!!!? (Mr. Osomatsu The Movie: The Plan to Turn Humanity into Trash!!!!!?). The film will also feature guest appearances by voice actress Nanami Yamashita, who voices Nyaa Hashimoto in the anime series, and Masanari Wada, known for his stage play performances. Fans are eagerly waiting to see what kind of chaos this absurd and entertaining story will create on the big screen.
