Snowball Earth Gets Season 2 Renewal: The Ice Age Continues!

The news that science fiction and mecha enthusiasts have been waiting for is finally here! The Snowball Earth anime, based on Yuhiro Tsujitsugu's highly acclaimed manga, has officially been renewed for a second season immediately following the broadcast of its first season finale on June 26, 2026. With this announcement, fans of the series can be certain that the adventures of Tetsuo and his giant robot Yukio in an ice-covered world will continue.
The first season of the series premiered on April 3, 2026, as part of Nippon TV's "Friday Anime Night" programming block. Produced by Studio KAI (Uma Musume: Pretty Derby, Super Cub), the production is helmed by director Munehisa Sakai, known for his successful work on projects such as Zombie Land Saga and One Piece Film Strong World. While a short teaser released alongside the season finale confirms that the new season is in production, no specific release date has been shared yet.
Snowball Earth follows the story of Tetsuo Yabusame, a socially awkward teenager. Having spent his childhood fighting against intergalactic monsters with his giant robot Yukio, Tetsuo returns to Earth after a great war only to find the planet completely covered in ice. His journey to find other survivors in this post-apocalyptic world while trying to keep his promise to Yukio has quickly reached a wide audience with its emotional depth and impressive mecha action.
The creator of the series, Yuhiro Tsujitsugu, has been serializing the manga in Shogakukan's Monthly Big Comic Spirits magazine since 2021. Interestingly, even before the manga was adapted into an anime, it received high praise from industry giants such as Hideaki Anno (Neon Genesis Evangelion), Hideo Kojima (Metal Gear Solid), and ONE (One-Punch Man). These endorsements explain why the anime was met with such high expectations and why it received a second season renewal so quickly.
Although no detailed information about the plot of the second season has been provided yet, the fact that the manga has already reached 11 volumes provides the anime team with plenty of material to adapt. Voice actors such as Takuto Yoshinaga (Tetsuo) and Daisuke Hirakawa (Yukio) are expected to return to their roles. Fans are eagerly waiting to see if the new season will push Studio KAI's visual quality even further.
