Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter Remake Release Date Announced: The Adventure Continues on September 17!

The long-awaited news for fans of The Legend of Heroes, one of the most established and beloved series in the J-RPG world, has finally arrived! Nihon Falcom has announced with a new trailer that the remake version of Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter (SC), the second and most critical entry in the series' "Liberl Arc" trilogy, will be released on September 17, 2026. The game will be available simultaneously on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, the highly anticipated Switch 2, and PC (Steam).
This new remake continues Estelle Bright's emotional and action-packed journey with modern visuals, picking up right where the first part (the 1st) released in 2025 left off. Originally released in 2006, Trails in the Sky SC is considered a classic of the genre due to its massive scenario and character depth. The story follows Estelle's efforts to find Joshua Bright after his mysterious disappearance and her struggle against the Ouroboros organization emerging from the shadows. The line "Goodbye, Estelle" in the trailer brings those melancholic moments from fans' memories back to life with modern graphics.
Technically, the game has been completely rebuilt in 3D using Falcom's newest engine, FDK (Falcom Developer Kit). Thanks to the "hybrid combat system" familiar from the Trails Through Daybreak series, players will be able to fight ordinary enemies in real-time action mode while switching to the classic turn-based command system for challenging boss fights. Additionally, it has been confirmed that players who transfer save files from the first game (1st Chapter) will be rewarded with special costumes based on the characters' original 2006 designs and various in-game bonuses.
Nihon Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo states that with these remake projects, they aim to bring the story of the Zemuria continent to a new generation of players. As part of the series' 20th-anniversary celebrations, this production promises not only nostalgia for old fans but also a modern J-RPG experience. The official confirmation of Nintendo Switch 2 support indicates that the power of the next-generation handheld console will also be utilized. This massive adventure, which will begin on September 17, looks to be a candidate for one of the most ambitious RPGs of the year.
