First Details Shared for We Are Aliens Anime Film: Lead Actors and Music Announced

We have some exciting news for science fiction and drama enthusiasts! With the release of the first teaser video for the original anime film We Are Aliens (Wareware wa Uchūjin), the key figures behind the project have been brought to light. The film will star popular actors Ryōta Bandō and Amane Okayama, while the music that will define the film's atmosphere will be composed by the talented Yaffle.
The project is helmed by visionary artist Kōhei Kadowaki, known for the music video for YOASOBI's popular song "Comet" and the ending sequence of the second season of BEASTARS. Kadowaki is not only directing the project but is also single-handedly taking on many critical roles, including screenplay, planning, storyboarding, and editing. This indicates that the film will be a unique production that fully reflects the director's personal artistic vision.
In the voice cast, Ryōta Bandō will bring the character Tsubasa to life, while Amane Okayama will voice the character Akitaro (Gyotaro). On the music side, we encounter a very exciting name: Yaffle. Known for his work with the famous Japanese artist Fujii Kaze and recognized for his success in the film Poupelle of Chimney Town, Yaffle will create a unique sound world for We Are Aliens that blends modern tones with classic anime aesthetics.
The story of the film centers around Tsubasa and Gyotaro, who were very close friends in the third grade of elementary school but whose paths diverged due to a simple misunderstanding. The story of these two old friends, who reunite after 30 years, turns into an emotional and thought-provoking journey that questions the meaning of life. Prepared in partnership with the Japanese film label NOTHING NEW and the French studio Miyu Productions, the film also utilizes the rotoscope technique to increase realism in the animations.
We Are Aliens is also being awaited with great interest on a global scale. The film is scheduled to be released in 2026, and it has been announced that it will have its world premiere in the "Directors' Fortnight" (Quinzaine des cinéastes) section of the 79th Cannes Film Festival, which will be held in May 2026. With both its visual style and deep story, this production appears to be a candidate for one of the most remarkable anime projects of 2026.
