5th Kingdom Live-Action Film "Tamashii no Kessen" Announced: Here Is the Release Date and New Cast!

Kingdom, one of Japan's most successful live-action film series, continues its epic story with its fifth film. According to the official announcement, the new film in the series, titled Kingdom: Tamashii no Kessen (Decisive Battle of the Soul), will meet moviegoers in Japan on July 17, 2026. The newly released trailer has excited fans of the series and revealed 10 new actors joining the cast for the first time. Among the new additions are talented actors such as Ryoki Miyama, Kōsei Yūki, and Aoi Nakamura.
The film's director's chair is once again occupied by Shinsuke Sato, as it was in the previous four productions. Kento Yamazaki, who brings the lead character Shin to life, continues to be accompanied by Ryo Yoshizawa as Ei Sei and Kanna Hashimoto as Ka Ryo Ten. Additionally, Shun Oguri, who portrays Riboku, one of the series' greatest antagonists, will take on a central role in this film. The screenplay was penned by the original manga creator Yasuhisa Hara and Tsutomu Kuroiwa.
The Kingdom series has achieved massive success not only in cinema but also in the manga world. The manga, which began serialization in Weekly Young Jump magazine in 2006, celebrates its 20th anniversary as of 2026. As of January 2026, the work has reached a circulation of over 120 million copies worldwide, placing it among the best-selling manga series in history. The epic story, set during China's Warring States period, follows the dream of Shin, a war orphan, to become the "Greatest General Under the Heavens" and the struggle of the young king Ei Sei to unify China.
The new film Tamashii no Kessen appears to focus on the "Coalition Army" arc, one of the most critical points in the story, where six states led by Riboku unite against the Qin kingdom. The fact that the previous four films grossed a total of 24.5 billion yen (approximately 167 million dollars) at the Japanese box office raises expectations for this new installment to the peak. Fans are eagerly waiting to see what level the visual effects and battle choreographies will reach in this, the series' largest battle yet.
