A New Masterpiece from the Creator of Abyss Rage: "Subaru the Invincible" Meets Readers

Nariaki Narita, known for his immersive martial arts stories and dynamic art style, has returned with an exciting new project. The creator behind the popular series Abyss Rage (Shinai no Rage), Narita officially launched his new manga, Subaru the Invincible (Muteki no Subaru), on Sunday, April 12, 2026. The series, which began serialization on Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ platform, is also available to global readers via MANGA Plus.
Subaru the Invincible focuses on "Full Contact Karate" within the world of martial arts. The story centers on Subaru Kannagi, a first-year high school student described as a fighting genius. However, there is a crucial detail that sets this series apart from classic sports manga: the story focuses not on Subaru's victories, but on the path leading to his inevitable "defeat." Powerful rivals like Hideio Oshima, who appears in the first chapter, and Subaru's overwhelming dominance show readers why the character is called "invincible," while signaling the dramatic turning points to come in later chapters.
The author's previous major success, Abyss Rage, was published between 2018 and 2021 and gained a large following with its 8-volume run. That series, which followed Shinobu, a blind martial artist participating in deadly fights on a prison island to save his kidnapped girlfriend, proved Narita's mastery of technical combat details. With his new series Subaru the Invincible, Narita offers a deeper exploration of character psychology and the burden of invincibility, this time on a more realistic sports foundation.
Martial arts manga have gained a different depth in recent years with series like The Boxer and Baki. Nariaki Narita's return to this genre seems set to satisfy both those looking for technical fight scenes and those expecting strong character development. How the series, which will be updated weekly, will handle Subaru's loneliness at the top and the great defeat that awaits him has already become a subject of great curiosity within the community.
