Special Manga Editions and New Scene Photos Coming for Blue Lock Live-Action Film

The promotional frenzy for the highly anticipated live-action film adaptation of the soccer-themed manga Blue Lock by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yusuke Nomura continues unabated. The film will be released in Japan in 2025 and has already managed to excite fans. According to recent announcements, a special edition series and new visuals have been shared for manga readers.
The special full-obi edition, which will go on sale in Japanese bookstores from June 23, 2025, features character images of the actors from the film. This limited edition draws attention with a wide band placed on the original manga volumes. At the same time, a starter pack containing volumes 1-3 will also be available on shelves for those new to the story. This pack appeals both to those who want to quickly adapt to the story before the film and to collectors.
The 14 new scene photos released from the film feature moments of the main character Yoichi Isagi, competitive footballer Seishiro Nagi, and talented player Reo Mikage facing tough trials. These images bring the series' unique harsh and psychological competitive atmosphere to live action. Director Shinsuke Sato (known for the Kingdom film series) stated in a previous statement that they are trying to create a realistic soccer scene while preserving the spirit of the manga.
The Blue Lock series has sold over 40 million copies worldwide since its debut in Weekly Shonen Magazine in 2018. Its anime adaptation garnered great interest during the 2022-2023 season, and the second season aired in October 2024. The live-action film will be the first major step of this successful universe in theaters. Fans are particularly curious about how the characters' movements on the field and the 'ego'-themed dialogues will be handled on the big screen. With the special editions and starter pack, new readers are expected to join the series. More details about the film—full cast and release date—will be announced in the coming weeks.
