Bocchi the Rock! Creator Aki Hamaji Illustrates 35th Anniversary Visual for the Legendary Shimokitazawa SHELTER

Bocchi the Rock! creator Aki Hamaji has designed a special main visual to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Shimokitazawa SHELTER, a real-world venue that holds a very special place for fans of the series. As the direct model for the fictional STARRY club where the main characters' band, Kessoku Band, performs, this venue once again strengthens the bond between the manga world and Japan's live music scene.
Opening its doors in 1991, Shimokitazawa SHELTER is known as the heart of Tokyo's independent music culture. Having hosted countless bands for 35 years, this legendary "live house" achieved global fame through Aki Hamaji's Bocchi the Rock!. The new visual prepared by Hamaji serves as a tribute to the venue's history while offering a collectible collaboration for fans of the series. The visual brings together the venue's characteristic atmosphere and the spirit of the series.
Bocchi the Rock! has gained significant momentum since it began in Manga Time Kirara Max magazine in 2017. The 2022 anime adaptation by CloverWorks, in particular, turned the series into a phenomenon. This success increased interest in the real-life Shimokitazawa district, and especially SHELTER, to such an extent that venue officials have occasionally had to issue special rules due to increased visitor traffic and fans wanting to take photos. The series tells the story of the music world through the lens of Hitori Gotoh (Bocchi), a character struggling with social anxiety, in a sincere tone.
This special anniversary visual is not just a celebration, but also a testament to the impact of a fictional work on a real-life business.
