Liar Game: The Last Game Manga Ends — Series' 20th Volume Out in October
The long-running Liar Game series' highly anticipated sequel manga Liar Game: The Last Game has officially concluded. According to Anime News Network, the final chapters will be collected in the 20th volume, set for release on October 19. This definitively ends both the side story and the main series.
Written and illustrated by Shinobu Kaitani, Liar Game was serialized in Weekly Young Jump from 2005 to 2015, quickly becoming a cult classic in the psychological thriller genre. The story follows naive university student Nao Kanzaki as she gets dragged into deceptive games organized by a mysterious organization. The series received a two-season drama adaptation by Fuji TV in 2014 and two feature films.
Starting in 2018, years after the main manga, Liar Game: The Last Game was a direct sequel to the original story. This side series, depicting Nao and her rival Shinichi Akiyama facing off again with new characters and more complex traps, spanned a total of 11 volumes. Now these 11 volumes are being compiled as the series' 20th collection volume – meaning the Liar Game universe is completed as a single 20-volume whole.
This news is both a farewell and a milestone for the series' loyal fans. Kaitani's masterfully crafted mind games and moral dilemmas elevated Liar Game beyond an ordinary manga to a literary level. The series, which has remained popular especially in recent years, continues to be translated in the West.
