Special Illustration from Chainsaw Man Creator Tatsuki Fujimoto to Dandadan

Chainsaw Man's legendary creator Tatsuki Fujimoto made a surprise that will delight Dandadan fans. In a special illustration posted on his social media account recently, Fujimoto featured the transformed form of Dandadan's main character, Okarun. This illustration quickly caused a great stir among fans of both Chainsaw Man and Dandadan.
Behind Fujimoto's gesture lies a meaningful connection. The creator of Dandadan, Yukinobu Tatsu, was Fujimoto's former drawing assistant. Tatsu developed his own style while working alongside Fujimoto during the early days of Chainsaw Man. This master-apprentice relationship between the two authors brings with it Fujimoto's support for Dandadan. Fujimoto has previously made praiseful comments about the series, stating his appreciation for Tatsu's talent.
Dandadan launched in 2023 on Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ platform and quickly gained a large fanbase both in Japan and internationally. Adapted into an anime by Science SARU studio in 2024, the series stood out for its visual style, absurd humor, and emotional depth. Fujimoto's illustration serves as a congratulatory gesture right after Dandadan's first season.
Such crossover illustrations are not uncommon in the Japanese manga industry, but they are always received as special gestures. Especially when a legend like Fujimoto sends a greeting to a project that is popular enough to overshadow his own series, it is a beautiful example of solidarity in the industry. While Dandadan fans await news of a second season, Fujimoto's gift is enough to put a smile on their faces for now.
