Chiikawa and Manhattan Portage Collaboration: Cute Characters Meet Street Fashion!

Chiikawa, one of Japan's biggest cultural phenomena in recent years, is joining forces with the iconic New York-based bag brand Manhattan Portage. This special collection, which will be available for sale across Japan and in online stores on May 22, 2026, blends the brand's durable and functional designs with the world of Nagano's beloved characters. The collection features a total of 10 different models, with each piece adorned with special character embroidery.
The standout pieces of the collection include Manhattan Portage's signature messenger bags, as well as the ENVIROPACK JR backpack, which draws attention with its large interior volume, and the REGO TOTE zippered handbags, which are ideal for daily use. All products are manufactured from 500D CORDURA® classic fabric, meeting the brand's high durability standards. In the designs, the characters Chiikawa, Hachiware, and Usagi appear with two different embroidery patterns. Prices range from 9,350 Yen (approximately $60) to 24,200 Yen (approximately $155).
Launched as a web-manga on X (formerly Twitter) in 2020 by illustrator Nagano, Chiikawa (full name Nanka Chiisakute Kawaii Yatsu) quickly reached millions of followers and became a national icon. In addition to the anime series that has been running since 2022, this collaboration, which comes ahead of the Chiikawa: Secret of Mermaid Island movie set to be released on July 24, 2026, has further increased the excitement among fans. The series is known not only for its cute characters but also for its realistic themes that reflect the characters' struggles for survival and the challenges of working life.
