The Drunken State of the Cool-Headed Boss: A New Romantic Comedy Begins with 'Imari-san wa Tabi Jōgo'

A new wave of romantic comedy is coming to the manga world. The new series 'Imari-san wa Tabi Jōgo', with an original story by Yūki Hiro (also known for the 'Kieli' series) and illustrations by Peke, began pre-publication on Nico Nico Manga on June 11, 2024. From June 19, it will also be available at other electronic bookstores.
The story has a very interesting dynamic: Imari-san, a cool-headed and beautiful female boss respected by everyone in the office, remains disciplined and distant at work, but after a glass of alcohol, she transforms into a completely different person. When drunk, Imari becomes a 'travel enthusiast' (tabi jōgo) and suddenly starts making spontaneous travel plans. The story depicts the comedic and romantic moments between Imari, who swings between these two different sides, and her subordinates who witness her transformation.
The series' release process is also noteworthy. Starting with pre-publication on Nico Nico Manga, the series will be available at other electronic bookstores from June 19. This kind of gradual release strategy is often used, especially in digital-first manga. While Yūki Hiro is known for the 'Kieli' series, Peke is known for their work in various anthologies. Together, they explore themes of work-life balance, the hidden passions that alcohol reveals, and office romance in this new series.
With its premise reminiscent of office-themed romantic comedies like 'Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku' or 'Kiss Him, Not Me', 'Imari-san wa Tabi Jōgo' is a must-read for readers who enjoy discovering the completely different sides of characters who seem serious at work. The first chapters of the series are already available on Nico Nico Manga; it is expected to reach a wider audience after June 19. Manga fans will be eagerly waiting to see which new adventure Imari will embark on each time she gets drunk.
