Crunchyroll Expands Manga Library: Five New Series Arrive from Shueisha

In a move that will excite manga enthusiasts, Crunchyroll has announced the addition of five significant series from publisher Shueisha to its platform. According to the official announcement, the new titles added to the library include Blooming Love, Hinomaru Sumo, Diamond in the Rough, My Girlfriend Gives Me Goosebumps!, and Excuse me dentist, it's touching me!. This step represents the latest link in Crunchyroll's strategy to modernize its digital manga service and offer a wider range of content to its subscribers.
Among the added series, Hinomaru Sumo (Hinomaru Zumou) in particular appeals to a large audience. Written by Kawada and serialized in the legendary Weekly Shonen Jump magazine between 2014 and 2019, this series consists of 28 volumes in total. Adapted into a 24-episode anime by studio Gonzo in 2018, the work tells the disciplined and harsh atmosphere of the sumo world in an impressive way. On the other hand, Diamond in the Rough (Aragane no Ko) by Nao Sasaki stands out as one of the most beloved fantasy adventure series on the Shonen Jump+ platform.
This move by Crunchyroll follows the structural changes the platform made to its manga service in the recent past. As will be recalled, the service had signaled that it would strengthen its ties with giants like Shueisha while ending agreements with some other publishers. Shizumu Watanabe's romance series with psychological elements, My Girlfriend Gives Me Goosebumps!, and Sho Yamazaki's comedy-focused Excuse me dentist, it's touching me! serve as proof of the platform's desire to appeal to readers of all genres.
The addition of these new series significantly facilitates access for Western readers to the Shonen Jump+ catalog. The inclusion of current series such as Daichi Kawada's modern romance work Blooming Love shows that Crunchyroll is closely following current trends. For manga lovers, this development means being able to not only watch anime but also access the source material of their favorite stories legally through a single subscription. It is expected that this partnership with Shueisha will be crowned with more titles in the coming months.
