Dark Fantasy Manga "The Beast of Gevaudan" Volume 1 Released: An Ex-Human's Prison Escape and Revenge Plan

The new dark fantasy manga "The Beast of Gevaudan" (Japanese: ジェヴォーダンという獣) meets readers with its first volume. Volume 1 of the series was published in Japan on June 15. The manga is created by the duo of writer Akadashi Namako and artist Ron Makita.
The work, which can be fully translated as "The Beast of Gevaudan: The Revenge Prison Escape Plan of an Ex-Human Monster That Eats Women in Prison", takes its name from a real legend from 18th-century France. The Beast of Gévaudan is based on the legend of a wolf-like creature that caused the deaths of hundreds between 1764 and 1767. The manga blends this legend with a dark fantasy and revenge story.
In terms of plot, it tells the story of a monster that was once human but now hunts women in prison, planning a prison escape to gain freedom and take revenge. At this point, themes of "fallen human" and "monstrification" come to the fore. The work stands out with both psychological tension and action-packed prison scenes.
This collaborative work by Akadashi Namako and Ron Makita particularly targets readers who love dark fantasy and anti-heroes. With the release of the first volume, it remains to be seen whether the series will continue. Although it gives the impression of a single-volume story for now, it is said that new volumes may come if reader interest increases.
The series, which does not yet have a licensed publication in Turkey, can be read in its original Japanese. Still, fans of the genre can access the work through overseas platforms or digital versions. Whether the series will be picked up by international publishers in the future is an exciting development to follow, especially for dark fantasy readers.
