Dark Gathering Manga Returns in September After One-Month Hiatus
Dark Gathering manga will meet readers again in September 2026 after a short one-month hiatus. According to Anime News Network's August 2, 2026 report, Kenichi Kondo's supernatural horror series will resume with a new chapter after the break announced in early August.
Published in Shueisha's monthly magazine Jump SQ since 2019, Dark Gathering follows the story of university student Keitaro Gentoga, who attracts spirits, young medium Yayoi Hozuki, and Yayoi's older sister Eiko Hozuki, on their adventure to collect powerful evil spirits. The main goal of the story is to build an army of spirits against the ghost that killed Yayoi's mother. With its structure blending classic horror elements with action and dark humor, Kondo's series holds an important place in Japan and among its international readership.
Dark Gathering has reached more than 20 tankōbon volumes to date. Adapted into an anime by OLM in 2023, the series aired its first season of 25 episodes from July to December 2023. The anime adaptation significantly increased the manga's recognition and expanded its fan base, especially in the West. Therefore, the manga's one-month hiatus was widely discussed among readers closely following the series.
Short breaks in monthly manga are sometimes preferred to give the drawing and story production process a breather. The August announcement didn't provide details on the reason for the hiatus.
