Dark Horse Announces English Release Dates for Vampire Hunter D: Rose Princess and Fortress of Blood
With its announcement on August 21, 2026, Dark Horse added two new English releases to the Vampire Hunter D universe. According to Anime News Network, the English translation of Saiko Takaki's Vampire Hunter D: Rose Princess manga will be published in March 2027. The Vampire Hunter D: Fortress of Blood comic will hit shelves on December 16, 2026. In this way, the publisher will bring both manga and comic book versions of the series to readers in the same period.
Vampire Hunter D is a dark fantasy classic created by Hideyuki Kikuchi in 1983 and etched into memory with illustrations by Yoshitaka Amano. The story takes place in the year 12,090, in a post-apocalyptic world inhabited by vampires and humans; the main character, D, is a half-vampire hunter who protects humans against vampires. The series became one of the iconic works of anime history with its first anime film in 1985 and the 2000 production Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. These new releases will also bring D's cold yet chivalrous demeanor to the pages of comics.
The closest release date in the announcement is the Fortress of Blood comic, coming out on December 16, 2026. In the same statement, Dark Horse also announced that it would publish H.P. Lovecraft's The Case of Charles Dexter Ward manga, continuing its claim in horror editing. Rose Princess, on the other hand, will offer a reading experience coinciding with spring in March 2027 for those who miss vampire stories. The publisher had previously brought Vampire Hunter D novels into English, becoming one of the most important bridges for the series in the West.
With the new titles, the Vampire Hunter D universe adds a new link to its journey spanning more than 40 years.
