Detective Conan Dethrones Spy x Family: Weekly Manga Sales in Japan (April 13-19, 2026)

According to data from Oricon, one of Japan's most prestigious sales tracking platforms, there was intense competition in the manga world during the week of April 13-19, 2026. According to the list shared by Comic Natalie, Gosho Aoyama's cult series Detective Conan (Case Closed) finished the week in first place with its 108th volume. Selling a total of 181,644 copies, the new volume surpassed the 17th volume of Tatsuya Endo's modern phenomenon Spy x Family (161,753 sales), proving once again the power of legendary series.
This success of Detective Conan is no coincidence; the series' 29th anime film, Fallen Angel on the Highway, hit theaters on April 10 and broke records with a 1.13 billion yen opening day gross. The massive excitement generated by the film was directly reflected in manga sales. In volume 108, critical developments regarding Rum, the number two of the Black Organization, and the significant role played by fan-favorite character Chihaya Hagiwara, drove reader interest in this volume to its peak.
The rest of the list shows a quite colorful picture. In third place is Osamu Nishi's beloved series Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun with its 48th volume, selling 59,986 copies. It is followed by The Fable: The Third Secret with 54,464 sales and Tatsu Yukinobu's supernatural comedy Dandadan with 51,548 sales. Additionally, the special Dragon Ball 42-volume box set, released in honor of the series' 40th anniversary, continues to find its place at the top of the list due to intense interest from collectors.
This week's data shows how deeply-rooted series in the manga industry can compete head-to-head with new-generation hits. While modern productions like Spy x Family are very strong digitally and globally, series that have surpassed 30 years like Detective Conan have a loyal readership in physical sales in Japan. It remains a matter of curiosity whether Spy x Family will reclaim the lead in the coming weeks as the impact of the film in theaters wanes. But for now, Kudo Shinichi and his team are enjoying the victory.
