Ema Toyama's New Magic School Series "Mahou Renshuusei Lili Raspberry" Meets Readers with Its First Volume

Ema Toyama, one of the most prolific and beloved names in the shoujo world, invites her fans on a spellbinding adventure. The first volume of the artist's latest work, Mahou Renshuusei Lili Raspberry (Magic Trainee Lili Raspberry), officially hit shelves in Japan on May 13. Serialized in Kodansha's famous Nakayoshi magazine, this new manga blends the classic magic school theme with Toyama's unique emotional storytelling.
At the center of the story is a young girl named Lili (Riri), who has suffered from loneliness her entire life and has never tasted true happiness. Lili's life changes completely when she is accepted into the prestigious Scientia Magic Academy, which has always been in her dreams. In this academy, students are trained to become master magicians in order to reach a happy future. However, an unexpected event in Lili's class ignites a series of adventures that will test both her courage and her moral values.
Ema Toyama has a very well-established career in the manga industry. Having won the "Best Children's Manga" award at the 36th Kodansha Manga Awards in 2012 for Missions of Love (Watashi ni xx Shinasai!), the artist has also recently made a name for herself with the anime adaptation of the Vampire Dormitory series. The sincere and detailed drawing style we recognize from Toyama's works such as I Am Here! and Manga Dogs is also felt in the Mahou Renshuusei Lili Raspberry series.
This new series is a great source of excitement, especially for readers who love fantasy worlds and stories that focus on character development. The manga, which began its publication life in Nakayoshi magazine in late 2025, has already made an impact with the release of its first volume.
